Elias Pape was born in the late 1960s under socialist conditions in the former GDR. His mother lovingly raised him alone. His father, who was allowed to study in the GDR as a private student from Cameroon, went back to his homeland after a few years to work for his country there. Since his mother was very often ill and could not look after her son to the extent that she would have wanted, Elias had to take responsibility very early on and assert himself against those around him. Even then, he instinctively learned to network, because he wanted to be something special even then.
